Love Includes Self-Care

What is love?

Valentine’s Day brings a lot of focus on candy, cards, and doing more.

At Apogee, we like to pause and ask a better question:

What are we teaching our kids about love?

Kids learn less from what we say and more from what we model. They notice how we eat, rest, handle stress, and respond when things feel overwhelming.

Self-care doesn’t mean anything fancy. It can look like:

  • Eating a real meal before sweets

  • Going to bed on time

  • Taking a breath before reacting

  • Saying no when you’re already stretched thin

That isn’t selfish — it’s foundational.

This week, try saying this at home:
“Valentine’s Day isn’t just about treats. It’s about taking care of ourselves and each other.”

When kids see that love includes self-care, they learn how to listen to their bodies, regulate their emotions, and live with intention — lessons that last far beyond a holiday.
