Healthy Hacks for Parents: The Overlooked Key to Focus, Energy, and Regulation
The Overlooked Key to Focus, Energy, and Regulation

Most people aren’t under-sleeping… They’re under-hydrating.
And no—juice, sports drinks, or flavored packets don’t count.
Hydration plays a powerful role in how children (and adults) feel and function each day. Adequate hydration supports brain function, attention, emotional regulation, digestion, energy, and physical performance. When hydration is off, we often see brain fog, fatigue, headaches, irritability, and difficulty focusing.
If any of that sounds familiar, hydration is a great place to start.
Water is the foundation. Encourage your child to carry a reusable water bottle at home, in the car, and throughout the day.
If plain water feels boring, adding natural flavor can help:
Lemon or lime slices
Cucumber with mint
A few berries
A small pinch of sea salt for minerals
💡 Tip: Letting water infuse overnight can make it more appealing without adding sugar.
Here is a simple rule of thumb:
If a drink contains added sugar, artificial sweeteners, or artificial colors, it’s not truly supporting hydration—regardless of how it’s marketed. These ingredients can spike energy, disrupt focus, and work against the nervous system regulation we care so much about at Apogee.
Hydration is one of the easiest and most effective ways to support your child’s focus, energy, and overall regulation!
